Greek steel pipe producer Corinth Pipeworks has been awarded a contract by DESFA, the operator of Greece’s National Natural Gas System, for the manufacture and supply of steel pipes for the Duplication of Karperi-Komotini High-Pressure Branch project.
Under the contract, Corinth Pipeworks will manufacture and supply more than 200 km of 30-inch HSAW linepipe for a new parallel high-pressure transmission network. The pipes will be produced at the company’s facilities in Thisvi and supplied with three-layer polyethylene external anti-corrosion coating and internal epoxy lining.
The new 218.5 km pipeline is designed to increase the capacity, flexibility and resilience of Greece’s natural gas transmission system, while eliminating capacity constraints in its northern section and enabling greater regional interconnections, including exports to the Greece-Bulgaria Interconnector (IGB).
The pipeline will also be hydrogen-ready, with the design allowing transportation of up to 100pct pure hydrogen, supporting Greece’s and Europe’s transition towards lower-carbon energy systems.
DESFA is responsible for the operation, management and development of Greece’s natural gas transmission system and plays a role in energy security and regional gas infrastructure development in Southeast Europe.
