Russian strikes hit several Ukrainian steel and mining facilities over the weekend, including ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Zaporizhstal and an Interpipe Steel complex in Dnipro, adding to continued disruption of the country’s steel industry.
ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih said its plant was hit by a missile strike, damaging production and auxiliary facilities. Two employees of contractor companies were killed, and two company employees were injured. The company is assessing the extent of the damage and the possibilities and timeframe for restoring operations.
At Zaporizhstal, four ballistic missiles struck the production site on September 12, according to Metinvest. The plant had not resumed production following previous attacks on August 11 and August 27. Four employees were injured in the latest strike, while production and auxiliary equipment, power systems and logistics infrastructure were damaged.
Russia’s Defence Ministry also said its forces struck an Interpipe Steel complex in Dnipro, along with several other industrial facilities in Kryvyi Rih, including the Northern Iron Ore Beneficiation Works complex. Interpipe has not issued an official statement confirming damage or operational disruption at the steel plant.
The latest attacks follow a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s steel industry. In August, missile strikes disrupted production at ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih and Metinvest’s Zaporizhstal, while the September 5 strike on Kamet Steel forced the plant to suspend production.
