Stegra selects shipping partners for European supply chain

Swedish green steelmaker Stegra has selected four shipping and logistics companies to manage its sea transport operations, supporting the movement of raw materials and finished steel products across Europe.

ESL Shipping and Royal Wagenborg will operate Stegra’s European shipping network, transporting input materials and finished products. ESL Shipping brings Baltic shipping experience and a modern fleet, while Royal Wagenborg offers Baltic expertise, ice-class capabilities and a versatile fleet.

Pangaea Logistics Solutions will handle iron ore deliveries, drawing on its dry bulk shipping experience, including ice-class and Arctic operations.

Clarksons has been working with Stegra as a strategic advisor on shipping and logistics, supporting the design and implementation of scalable and lower-carbon ocean freight solutions for the company’s supply chain.

The shipping arrangements will support inbound deliveries of materials, including scrap, to Stegra’s green steel plant in Boden, as well as outbound shipments of steel products to service centres and customers across Europe.

The agreements follow Stegra’s previously announced arrangements with the ports of Lulea, Skelleftea and Umea, as well as state-owned railway operator Green Cargo for rail transport between the ports and the Boden plant.

Stegra is developing an integrated near-zero emission steel plant in Boden, northern Sweden, based on hydrogen-powered direct reduced iron (DRI) and electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking.
