GSM Tanzania expands long steel production with new mill

GSM Tanzania Limited has awarded Danieli a contract to supply a new 300,000 tons per year rebar and wire rod mill at the Kilimanjaro Industrial Park in Tanzania.

The mill will process 150×150-mm billets at a production rate of up to 50 tons per hour. It will produce deformed rebar in sizes of 8-32 mm and smooth wire rod in 5.5-6.5 mm sizes, targeting demand from the East African construction and infrastructure sectors.

Danieli’s scope includes the complete rolling mill technology package, including 14 cartridge-type stands, a 10-pass finishing block, in-line quenching and tempering and a high-speed delivery system for the rebar line. The wire rod line will feature an in-line QTR system, laying head and cooling conveyor.

The plant will be controlled by Danieli Automation systems, with the project designed to achieve competitive production costs, lower energy consumption and consistent product quality.

GSM Tanzania Limited, part of the GSM Group of Companies, operates across infrastructure development, manufacturing, wholesale and industrial investments.
