GravitHy has awarded CAP INGELEC an EPC contract to design and build a 1.15 GW electrical substation for its planned low-carbon hot briquetted iron (HBI) production facility in Fos-sur-Mer, France.
The substation will connect the project to the French electricity transmission system operator, RTE’s 400 kV transmission network and distribute electricity at 33 kV across the site. Around 720 MW of the total capacity will be dedicated to electrolysis for low-carbon hydrogen production, with the remaining power supporting the HBI unit and other industrial operations.
The contract allows GravitHy to begin detailed engineering studies and progressively procure long-lead equipment, supporting project development ahead of the Final Investment Decision (FID).
GravitHy is developing a large-scale low-carbon HBI production facility at Fos-sur-Mer, based on hydrogen produced through electrolysis and intended to reduce emissions from ironmaking.
