AM/NS India has secured Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) licences under two new standards covering quenched and tempered (Q&T) steel and zinc-aluminium-magnesium (Zn-Al-Mg), or ZAM, coated steel, expanding domestic availability of specialized steel products.
The company became the first steelmaker in India to receive the All India First BIS Licence for IS 2062 (Part 2):2026, covering hot-rolled Q&T steel plates, sheets, strips and wide flats. It also received a BIS licence under IS 19210:2025 for pre-painted Zn-Al-Mg alloy-coated steel strip and sheet.
The Q&T products are intended for applications including bridges, heavy engineering, mining equipment, offshore structures and marine projects, while the coated products are used in roofing, cladding, infrastructure, warehousing and industrial construction.
AM/NS India said the certifications enable it to supply certified grades for state-funded infrastructure, defence and public-sector projects, while the Q&T licence provides a domestic source for products previously reliant on imports. The certified products are manufactured at its Hazira and Pune facilities.
AM/NS India is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, with crude steel capacity of 9 mln tons per year and pellet capacity of 20 mln tons per year. The company is also developing an 8.2 mln tons per year integrated steel plant in Andhra Pradesh.
