Severstal brings new warehouse at CherMK to full capacity

Russian steelmaker Severstal has brought its new warehouse complex for finished products from Mill 2000 at the Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works (CherMK) to full capacity, with shipments reaching around 50,000 tons per month.

The warehouse was built as part of a strategic programme to increase rolled steel output at Mill 2000, CherMK’s main hot-rolling unit. The facility can store up to 8,000 tons of finished products and is designed to shorten transport distances between the mill and warehouse, improving logistics efficiency and product quality.

According to Severstal, the complex has increased supply flexibility while reducing costs across the production chain. Mill 2000 currently produces more than 6.5 mln tons of finished steel products annually, with the company targeting output of 7 mln tons per year to serve various industrial sectors.

The facility has begun handling thin rolled products and is expected to provide additional flexibility during upgrades to adjacent units. Severstal is also developing supporting logistics infrastructure, including a parking area to increase truck shipments and diversify delivery routes, particularly during winter.

Severstal is one of Russia’s largest integrated steel producers, with annual crude steel production capacity of approximately 11.8 mln tons. Its flagship Cherepovets Iron and Steel Works is one of the country’s largest flat steel producers.
