Turkey’s imported scrap market remained subdued this week as weak finished steel demand continued to weigh on buying activity. MESTEEL assessed HMS 1&2 (80:20) at USD 395-400 per ton CFR Turkey, with limited trading keeping prices broadly stable.
Turkish steel mills continued to seek discounts, but further price declines were constrained by elevated costs, particularly persistently high freight rates, and limited import offers. Suppliers have shown some willingness to consider lower prices, although no new deep-sea bookings were reported during the week.
Domestic rebar demand remained weak, with several mills lowering offers and trading activity subdued in both domestic and export markets. Limited billet availability has also provided some support to scrap prices despite sluggish finished steel demand.
Turkish steelmaker Kardemir raised its billet prices by USD 30 per ton in its latest sales round, setting 150 mm S235JR billet at USD 565 per ton EXW and B420 billet at USD 575 per ton EXW. Firm scrap costs and limited billet availability from traditional suppliers, including Russia, are supporting domestic billet prices and may help limit further declines in scrap.
MESTEEL assessed Turkish rebar export offers at USD 615-625 per ton FOB, unchanged week on week, while wire rod was assessed at USD 635-645 per ton FOB, also unchanged.
