Blastr Green Steel has selected Primetals Technologies as its technological partner for a new 2.5 mln tons-per-year steel production complex near Helsinki, Finland. The plant, powered entirely by green hydrogen, includes a Midrex H2 facility to produce hot DRI and HBI, supporting Blastr in decarbonizing its supply chains with ultra-low-carbon iron feedstock.
Primetals Technologies will provide a 300-ton EAF Ultimate electric arc furnace for direct charging of hot DRI, alongside ladle furnace and RH plant for secondary metallurgy. An off-gas treatment system and waste heat recovery plant will ensure energy efficiency in electric steelmaking.
The partnership also encompasses an Arvedi ESP thin slab casting and hot-rolling line, plus a continuous pickling and galvanizing line for coated steel sheets. Full electrics, automation systems, and digitalization solutions aim to optimize production, energy management, and quality control, fostering autonomous operations and enhancing occupational safety.
