JFE Steel to supply eco-friendly wire rod for containers project

JFE Steel Corporation announced that its JGreeX green-steel wire rod will be used for the wire handles of “LOOPOX” containers, designed for storing and transporting recycled resources. This marks the first use of JGreeX in the bar and wire rod sector.

Suzutoyo Seiko Co., Ltd., a partner of Sumitomo Corporation Global Metals Co., Ltd., will process the handles, which will be integrated into LOOPOX containers by Sato Seisakusho Co., Ltd. These containers, made with 100pct recycled plastic, are produced by Sato Seisakusho and Shinto Tsushin Co., Ltd. Using JGreeX for the handles will help minimize CO2 emissions associated with these eco-friendly containers, which Sato Seisakusho and Shinto Tsushin aim to commercialize.

JFE Steel allocates emission reductions to specific JGreeX green-steel products using the mass-balance approach, in line with Japan Iron and Steel Federation guidelines. This approach assigns the environmental value of CO2 emission reductions from the entire manufacturing process to specific steel products, making them low in CO2 emission intensity.

JFE Steel, established through the merger of NKK Corporation and Kawasaki Steel Corporation in 2003, operates multiple steelworks in Japan and has numerous branch offices and affiliates worldwide. The company is committed to contributing to global decarbonization by expanding its range of eco-friendly products, including JGreeX, and collaborating with customers to produce and sell environmentally friendly products.
