Nippon Steel and Sumitomo extend long-term OCTG contract with Aker BP

Nippon Steel Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation have extended their long-term contract with Norwegian energy company Aker BP ASA for OCTG supply until 2034.

Aker BP, established in 2016, is Europe’s largest independent energy company, focusing on oil and gas exploration and production on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Since Aker BP’s inception, Nippon Steel Corporation, through Sumitomo Corporation, has supplied OCTG for oil and gas development. The contract renewal highlights Sumitomo and Nippon Steel’s reputation for stable supply of high-performance OCTG, customer-centric product development, and comprehensive supply chain management solutions.

This renewal deepens Nippon Steel’s strategic partnership with Aker BP, potentially expanding into new areas such as decarbonization, hydrogen, and ammonia businesses. The companies aim to enhance energy security amidst geopolitical uncertainties and contribute to achieving a decarbonized society through OCTG supply stability.
