MMK Metalurji, a Turkish steel producer, reported substantial growth in steel output in the first half of 2024, according to its operational results. The company’s crude steel production surged to 274,000 tons, compared to 135,000 tons in the same period last year.
This sharp growth is attributed to the low base in the same period last year due to the earthquake in Southern Turkey in early 2023, as well as persistently challenging macroeconomic conditions in Turkey.
In Q2 2024, the company’s steel output decreased by 6.5 pct compared to the previous quarter, totaling 133,000 tons.
The MMK Metalurji plant includes a steelmaking shop with a casting and rolling module, a cold rolling mill, and a steel service center with continuous hot dip galvanizing and polymer coating facilities in Iskenderun. It also has a steel service center with similar facilities in Istanbul. The plant’s design capacity stands at 2.3 mln tons.
