Tosyali Algerie and Sonatrach partner for green hydrogen feasibility study

Tosyali Algerie has signed a memorandum of understanding with Algeria’s state-owned oil company, Sonatrach, to jointly conduct a feasibility study for producing green hydrogen from renewable energies in Algeria. The green hydrogen produced will be used to manufacture green steel at Tosyali Algerie’s steel complex.

This agreement aligns with the national hydrogen strategy, which aims to reduce natural gas consumption and cut greenhouse gas emissions, according to Sonatrach.

Tosyali Holding operates across three continents, with nearly 40 facilities worldwide. In addition to its ventures in Turkey, the company has significant investments in Algeria, Senegal, Angola, and other regions. In Algeria, Tosyali Algerie’s flat steel complex project includes a DRI plant, EAF, hot and cold rolling mills, and a galvanizing mill. The DRI plant and EAF, each with an annual capacity of 2.5 mln tons, have been successfully commissioned. The company is set to commission a hot rolling mill with a capacity of 2 mln tons annually in the second half of this year. Future plans include commissioning a cold rolling mill with an annual capacity of 800,000 tons and a galvanizing line with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year by 2025. Tosyali also produces rebar and wire rod with an annual capacity of 3.8 mln tons and operates a 400,000 tons per year helical submerged arc welding pipe mill in Algeria.
