Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein has awarded SMS group a contract to supply switch-mode power modules for its electrolytic tinning line in Andernach, Germany. The line, originally supplied by SMS group in 2005, will receive 44 X-Pact High Current switch-mode rectifiers, set for installation in November 2024. These rectifiers will enhance process efficiency and support Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein’s goal of more sustainable packaging steel production.
Replacing the existing thyristor system, the new rectifiers will offer improved control over output voltage and current through rapid switching. This leads to higher efficiency and reduced heat generation. SMS group’s technology, including pulse plating and pulse reverse plating functionalities, provides advanced surface design tools and optimization capabilities.
Thyssenkrupp Rasselstein GmbH, a subsidiary of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe and one of Europe’s top packaging steel producers, operates the world’s largest packaging steel site in Andernach. SMS group has previously delivered comprehensive solutions for the site, including mechanical equipment, electrical and automation systems, supply facilities, pollution control, and acid regeneration systems.
