Tata Steel and Welspun Corp have teamed up to produce hydrogen-compliant grade steel pipes designed for the safe transportation of gaseous hydrogen. Their collaboration has resulted in the successful development and testing of API X65 grade pipes for high-pressure hydrogen transport. This advancement represents a key step towards clean energy solutions and supports India’s net-zero emissions goals.
The partnership builds on a 2022 memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at creating hydrogen-compliant API-grade pipes using the ERW Pipe route. Tata Steel provided HRC from its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha, while Welspun Corp managed the ERW pipe manufacturing. Vipul Mathur, Managing Director and CEO of Welspun Corp, emphasized that this initiative aligns with the Indian government’s vision of achieving a net-zero economy by 2070. It supports the adoption of green hydrogen and contributes to a more sustainable future.
