The Supervisory Board and Executive Board of Salzgitter AG have approved the construction of a new hot straightening machine at the Salzgitter Mannesmann Grobblech GmbH plant in Mulheim an der Ruhr, marking one of the largest single investments at the site. Austrian firm Buma Engineering & Anlagenbau GmbH has been selected as the construction partner.
This investment will enhance sheet metal processing capabilities and open new applications, particularly in energy infrastructure. The hot straightening machine, set to be commissioned in summer 2026, will produce thick sheets for energy infrastructure projects, such as offshore foundation structures.
Additionally, sheet metal logistics have been optimized, allowing sheets up to 24 meters long to be available for wind tower construction starting this summer. The first project for a leading wind tower manufacturer has already been secured, Salzgitter said.
