Outokumpu expands fleet with Kalmar electric forklifts for zero-emission push

Kalmar has signed an agreement to supply Outokumpu with three light electric forklift trucks and one medium electric forklift truck for their Tornio stainless steel plant in Finland. The order, which includes a Kalmar Essential Care preventive maintenance agreement, was recorded in Kalmar’s Q3 2024 intake. The light forklifts will be delivered in Q1 2025, and the medium forklift in Q4 2025.

Outokumpu’s Tornio plant, the most integrated stainless steel facility globally, includes stainless steel melt shop lines, a hot rolling mill, a cold rolling plant, and processing lines. Forklift trucks are crucial to the plant’s production logistics. This order marks Outokumpu’s move towards zero-emission operations. The four electric forklifts, using both lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, will be the first of their kind at the Tornio plant, complementing its existing fleet of diesel-powered forklifts.
