Gerdau Whitby recently placed orders with AIC to manage the intermediate drives, finishing drives, and the complete control system for their rolling mill. This project, commissioned in the summer of 2024, achieved a successful startup after a brief 10-day outage, with the plant returning to full production on the first day after the shutdown.
As a result, AIC now supplies the entire power and control system for Gerdau Whitby’s structural rolling mill, underscoring the enduring strength of the partnership between Gerdau and AIC.
The collaboration between Gerdau Whitby and AIC began in 2014, when AIC was first commissioned to enhance the structural mill’s cooling bed area with advanced automation and power solutions. Over the past decade, AIC has consistently provided reliable solutions to optimize Gerdau Whitby’s operational efficiency. In 2022, AIC further reinforced its reputation by upgrading the mill’s rougher drives, which solidified Gerdau Whitby’s trust in AIC’s expertise, according to a press release from AIC.
