SSAB has partnered with Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Kalmar AB to supply fossil-free steel for anti-squeal brake shims, essential for reducing noise in vehicles, particularly electric cars. Trelleborg, a supplier of damping solutions since 1988, provides these components to major vehicle manufacturers to minimize noise and vibrations during braking.
With growing demand for sustainable components, especially in the electric vehicle segment, Trelleborg aims to offer brake shims with a significantly lower carbon footprint. This collaboration with SSAB is crucial to achieving that goal, as traditional steel production is a major source of CO2 emissions.
SSAB is committed to reducing emissions and creating a fossil-free value chain. It has developed two types of nearly fossil-free steel: SSAB ZeroM, made from recycled steel and produced using fossil-free electricity and biogas, and SSAB Fossil-free steel, produced using hydrogen from renewable electricity through HYBRIT technology. This innovative method replaces carbon dioxide emissions with water, marking a significant step towards sustainable steel production.
