Ternium and Petrobras sign natural gas supply contract

Ternium and Petrobras have signed a contract to supply natural gas to Ternium’s unit in Rio de Janeiro, marking the company’s shift from the captive market to the free market in the state. Under this agreement, Petrobras will provide a firm supply of natural gas, while Naturgy will handle distribution.

This partnership represents the first commercial relationship between Petrobras and Ternium in the free natural gas market, aiming to create a more open, competitive, and sustainable trading environment in Brazil. Ternium also expressed intentions to explore further partnerships and synergies in the natural gas sector, aligned with the steel industry’s decarbonization goals.

Titus Schaar, president of Ternium Brazil, noted, “This agreement offers significant opportunities for Ternium Brazil. Accessing natural gas in the free market enhances our competitiveness and promotes resource efficiency, which is vital for our strategic decarbonization agenda.”
