SSAB to supply fossil-free steel for building project in 2025

SSAB and Parmaco have partnered to create a fossil-free steel building, aiming to construct the world’s first such structure in 2025. Parmaco plans to use pilot deliveries of fossil-free steel developed with HYBRIT technology throughout the entire building, making it the first project to utilize SSAB’s fossil-free steel for all its steel components.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2025 and be completed later that year. This building will serve as a model for sustainable construction globally, demonstrating that urban development can meet growing demands without contributing to climate change.

Parmaco specializes in creating adaptable spaces for schools, daycares, offices, and residential complexes, using its innovative product, Fixcel, a cutting-edge steel cell that enhances indoor air quality and energy efficiency.

The HYBRIT technology, developed by SSAB in collaboration with LKAB and Vattenfall, replaces traditional coal with hydrogen and fossil-free electricity in the iron ore reduction process, producing water as a by-product instead of CO2 emissions. The fossil-free steel is currently available for pilot deliveries to selected partners.
