The latest data from the World Stainless Association (Worldstainless) reveals that global stainless steel production at melt shops rose by 6.3pct YoY in the first half of 2024, reaching 30.37 mln tons.
China remained the leading producer, with output totaling 18.75 mln tons, reflecting an increase of nearly 6pct compared to the first half of 2023. Excluding China and South Korea, stainless steel production in Asia grew by 9pct, reaching 3.617 mln tons.
Europe saw a modest YoY increase of 0.3pct, producing 3.139 mln tons. In the USA, stainless steel output surged by 9pct YoY, totaling 1.027 mln tons.
Additionally, stainless steel production in other countries, including Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia, collectively increased by 10.5pct YoY, resulting in a total output of 3.837 mln tons.
