Scrap import prices dip slightly amid weak steel demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices have fluctuated within a limited range this week, reflecting a slight decline. Current prices are assessed at USD 355-365 per ton CFR, down from USD 360-365 per ton CFR last week.

The widening price gap is attributed to a decrease in European-origin scrap cargoes. However, market insiders suggest that the potential for further price declines may be limited, as suppliers are facing higher collection costs, making it challenging to negotiate lower prices.

Domestic and overseas demand for Turkish finished steel remains weak, putting additional pressure on prices. Over the past week, Turkish long steel export offers have decreased by USD 10 per ton. Rebar export offers now range from USD 600 to 610 per ton FOB, while wire rod export offers are around USD 615 to 625 per ton FOB.
