JFE Corporation, in partnership with Megatec Corporation, has secured an order from Gerdau for hot repair engineering services on the coke battery at Gerdau’s Ouro Branco plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil.
This hot repair service is part of JFE’s suite of solution-based products and technologies under JFE Resolus. Through this, JFE will leverage its advanced technologies and expertise to enhance operational efficiency at the facility.
JFE’s hot repair technology offers several key advantages for coke batteries, including the ability to perform targeted, selective repairs on specific ovens, reducing downtime. Large, pre-cast zero-expansion blocks enable a faster repair process and stronger walls. Additionally, the repair process allows unaffected ovens to continue production, minimizing coke production losses. High-performance insulation materials further ensure a safer work environment by keeping repair area temperatures below critical levels, protecting silica bricks.
JFE has also developed a laser scanner-based measurement and visualization technology to accurately assess and visualize wall damage, such as deformation and erosion. This technology allows for precise identification of repair areas, enhancing repair accuracy and efficiency, according to the company.
