Turkey imported 14.9 mln tons of scrap in the first nine months of 2024, a 6.3pct increase YoY, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
From January to September 2024, scrap imports from the USA rose by 5pct YoY to 3.4 mln tons. Other major suppliers during this period included the Netherlands with 2 mln tons and the UK with 1.6 mln tons.
In September 2024, Turkey’s scrap imports surged nearly 35pct YoY to 1.4 mln tons, though this represented a 26pct drop compared to August.
