Severstal has invested RUB 5.5 bln (USD 56 mln) to upgrade the environmental equipment of blast furnace No. 5 (BF-5). The overhaul includes the installation of a modern dust collector to improve the efficiency of blast furnace gas cleaning and dust capture. Additionally, the furnace features an upgraded aspiration system to remove dusty air and maintain workplace standards.
As part of the upgrade, all aspiration air ducts in the casting yards were replaced, and new, highly efficient aspiration exhausts were installed at key points, such as cast iron tapholes and draining areas. These systems are automatically controlled and synchronized with the tapping process, reducing dust emissions.
The project also involved upgrading the natural gas supply system, which, along with a new cooling system, helps reduce solid fuel consumption and CO2 emissions during cast iron production.
