Scrap import prices decline amid weak steel demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices continued to decline this week, reflecting ongoing challenges in the steel market. Prices are now assessed at USD 335-340 per ton CFR, down from USD 340-345 per ton CFR recorded last week.

Domestic finished steel demand in Turkey remains subdued, constrained by high interest rates that contribute to liquidity challenges and currency volatility. In international markets, Turkish steel exporters are facing strong competition from other countries.

Export offers for Turkish long steel products saw a decrease this week. Rebar export offers fell by USD 5 per ton to USD 575-585 per ton FOB as compared to last week prices. Meanwhile, wire rod export offers are in the range of USD 590-600 per ton FOB, down by USD 5 per ton on a week-on-week basis.
