Scrap import prices stable amid subdued buying activity

Turkey’s scrap import prices remained steady this week, assessed at USD 335-340 per ton CFR, as subdued buying activity reflected a stalemate between buyers and sellers. Turkish steel mills lowered their bids due to falling steel prices and weak demand, but scrap sellers resisted, citing limited scrap availability during the winter. Some market insiders believe scrap prices are nearing a bottom or will face minimal further downside.

Domestic and international demand for Turkish steel products remained sluggish, weighed down by currency volatility, liquidity constraints, and strong competition in export markets.

Export offers for Turkish long steel products declined this week. Rebar export offers dropped by USD 5 per ton to USD 570-580 per ton FOB compared to last week. Similarly, wire rod export offers fell by USD 5 per ton, now ranging between USD 585-595 per ton FOB.
