Turkish special steel bar producer Hascelik is preparing to launch its new electric arc furnace (EAF)-based steel mill in April, a move aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.
Hascelik Board Chairman Adnan Naci Faydasicok described the EUR 150 mln investment as a game-changer for the company. “With this facility, Hascelik will achieve production independence, as billets previously sourced externally will now be cast in-house. The new mill, integrated with our existing hot rolling plant in Kocaeli, will enhance our production capabilities by ensuring better quality control and cost efficiency. This will strengthen our position in critical sectors such as automotive,” he said.
Faydasicok also highlighted the environmental benefits of the project. “Traditional blast furnace steelmaking emits around 2.5 tons of CO2 per ton of steel produced. With our new production model, combining electric arc furnaces and solar energy, this will drop to below 0.50 tons of CO2 per ton, significantly reducing our environmental impact,” he explained.
Hascelik is a leading Turkish producer of hot-rolled special steel, cold-worked special bright steel, and grinding balls. As Turkey’s largest bright steel exporter, the company operates extensive rolling mill facilities with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons. With a widespread network of steel service centers, Hascelik ranks among Turkey’s top 200 industrial enterprises.
