Scrap import prices steady amid restocking demand

Turkey’s scrap import prices remained stable this week at USD 350-360 per ton CFR, despite weak steel demand, as restocking by Turkish steel producers provided support.

Limited scrap collection during the winter also helped maintain prices. However, sluggish steel demand in both domestic and export markets remain a concern and could cap future gains if demand does not improve.

In the domestic market, weak steel demand led major producer Kardemir to open a new rebar sales round earlier this week at lower prices than before, despite higher scrap costs.

On the export front, Turkish steel producers faced sluggish demand, forcing them to lower prices.

Turkish rebar export offers are in the range of USD 555-565 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers are at USD 570-580 per ton FOB, down by USD 5 per ton compared to the previous week’s prices
