Scrap import prices continue upward trend

Turkey’s scrap import prices continued to rise this week, reaching USD 370-380 per ton CFR, up from USD 365-375 per ton CFR last week.

The price increase is driven by higher collection costs, a stronger Euro against the USD, and optimism in the U.S. steel sector following Trump’s blanket tariffs on steel and aluminum.

Despite the upward trend, Turkish steel mills are resisting higher prices due to weak finished steel demand. However, several cargoes were reportedly booked, reflecting sustained restocking demand. Additionally, the rise in billet imports suggests that mills are diversifying procurement strategies to improve margins.

Meanwhile, Turkish steel export offers remained unchanged despite rising scrap costs. Weak overseas demand has forced suppliers to maintain current price levels. Rebar export prices remain at USD 565-575 per ton FOB, while wire rod offers range between USD 580-590 per ton FOB.
