    Salzgitter divests footwear machinery unit

    German steel producer, Salzgitter Group has agreed to sell DESMA Schuhmaschinen GmbH to French-German industrial group NAME & MAWI Partners S.A.S. (NMP) as part of its portfolio optimization strategy. The deal is expected to close in autumn 2025. Financial details were not disclosed.

    NMP, headquartered in Weil der Stadt, Germany, and Strasbourg, France, operates nine companies with 250 employees across Germany, France, Switzerland, and Slovakia. The group is a global leader in splitting, skiving, and cutting technologies for soft materials, serving industries such as leather, footwear, and packaging.

    DESMA, based in Achim near Bremen, has been producing direct shoe-soling machines since 1946 and is recognized as the global market leader in industrial shoe manufacturing systems, molds, and automation solutions. Around half of all direct shoe-soling machines worldwide are produced by DESMA, which employs 220 people.
