MSC’s Saba Steel develops high-strength automotive grade

Iran’s Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) announced that its subsidiary, Saba Steel & Rolling Mill, has successfully produced the high-strength hot-rolled automotive steel grade HAS60, equivalent to ATOS60, for the first time to expand its product portfolio.

Saba Steel CEO Qasem Khoshdelpour credited MSC Group’s support and the team’s expertise for the milestone, highlighting it as the first domestic production of this grade in Iran. He said the achievement reflects the company’s focus on using local know-how to deliver globally competitive products.

The new HAS60 grade, used in heavy vehicle manufacturing, is valued for its high strength-to-weight ratio, which helps reduce vehicle weight, improve fuel efficiency, and cut emissions. MSC noted that producing such grades requires specialized processes across steelmaking, casting, and rolling, along with thorough risk assessments at every stage.

The company said the development supports local demand for import-substitute automotive steel and strengthens Saba’s product range.
