Ukraine-based Interpipe has supplied customized micropiles for the renovation of an arch railway bridge, part of Slovak Railways’ modernization of the 15 km Poprad-Vydrnik section.
Challenging subsoil conditions made standard piles impractical, prompting Interpipe to provide 108 mm diameter pipes as compact micropiles. These were made from structural steel S355J2, valued for its strength, weldability, and impact resistance.
Vitaliy Sinelnikov, Interpipe’s Pipe Sales Manager for European markets, noted that railway bridges must endure heavy freight and passenger loads for decades. Micropiles, he said, offer the same load-bearing capacity as traditional piles while requiring far less ground preparation.
