Emirates Steel secures MENA’s first ResponsibleSteel certification

EMSTEEL’s steel business unit, Emirates Steel Industries, has become the first company in the Middle East and North Africa to receive ResponsibleSteel Core Site certification, following a rigorous audit by international certification body CARES. The assessment measured performance against strict environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.

This achievement comes shortly after EMSTEEL was named a 2025 Steel Sustainability Champion by the World Steel Association for the second consecutive year, another first for a MENA-based producer.

Group CEO Engineer Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi called the certification a proud milestone, highlighting the company’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and decarbonising the steel value chain. ResponsibleSteel CEO Annie Heaton noted that the recognition reflects EMSTEEL’s strong governance and transparent stakeholder engagement.

ResponsibleSteel is the industry’s first global multi-stakeholder standard and certification initiative, addressing responsible sourcing, climate action, diversity, human rights, and environmental stewardship.

Headquartered in Abu Dhabi, EMSTEEL has a production capacity of 3.5 mln tons of steel and 4.6 mln tons of cement annually. The group exports to over 70 markets, accounting for 30pct of its sales. The company offers a diverse range of steel products, including wire rod, rebar, heavy sections, and sheet piles.
