Eurometal, the European federation for steel, tube, and metals distribution, said the European Commission has dismissed rumours of any delay to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
In an official response to Eurometal, the Director-General of DG TAXUD (Directorate-General for Taxation and Customs Union) confirmed that CBAM will take effect on 1 January 2026, as set out in EU law. Any change would require a formal legislative proposal from the European Commission and approval by both the European Parliament and the Council, and no such proposal exists.
This confirmation means the fiscal phase of CBAM will begin as planned, Eurometal noted, adding that it will continue monitoring the implementation and updating its members accordingly.
