Hazer extends MoU with Posco to advance low-carbon steel technology

Australia’s Hazer Group Ltd has extended its non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with Posco Steel for an additional two years, or until binding agreements are finalized, according to a stock exchange filing. The extension builds on ongoing collaborative work since the original MoU was signed on 31 May 2024 and outlines the next steps for integrating Hazer’s technology into Posco’s proprietary low-carbon steel production process.

The renewed agreement follows a productive first phase of cooperation, which included Posco’s testing of Hazer’s low-emissions graphite across multiple potential steelmaking and industrial applications. Testing is continuing after encouraging early results.

Hazer’s technology provides a pathway to decarbonize steel manufacturing through the co-production of low-cost clean hydrogen and high-purity graphite, using natural gas or biogas and iron ore as the process catalyst. Posco, one of the world’s largest steelmakers, headquartered in Pohang, South Korea, has committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Hazer Group is an Australian climate-technology company focused on global decarbonization through the commercialization of its hydrogen-graphite process, which produces clean hydrogen and premium graphite at competitive cost.
