Sahal Al-Thobaiti, CEO of Al Yamamah Steel Industries Co., said the company’s new wind power systems factory in Yanbu Industrial City has an annual production capacity of around 50,000 tons of steel towers, equivalent to roughly 1 gigawatt (GW) of wind energy capacity, Argaam reported.
This output represents about 46pct of the wind energy projects expected to launch in the Saudi market in the near future. The facility, which recently began trial operations, marks the company’s entry into the wind energy supply chain through the production of windmill towers.
In an interview, Al-Thobaiti described the factory as a strategic milestone aligned with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to localize industries and expand renewable energy. He noted that the plant is the first of its kind in both Saudi Arabia and the wider GCC region dedicated to wind tower manufacturing.
Al-Thobaiti added that the factory will serve as a foundation for localizing the wind energy industry, with demand expected to rise in the years ahead. Saudi Arabia aims to develop 16 GW of wind energy capacity by 2030, while current capacity stands at just 400 megawatts (MW).
On the financial side, the CEO said renewable energy, particularly wind and solar, is projected to contribute 26-30pct of Al Yamamah Steel’s total revenues in the coming years, helping diversify income and support long-term revenue growth.
Al Yamamah Steel is a leading Saudi manufacturer of steel products, including welded tubes, sheets, rebars, and three-dimensional space structures for the construction and infrastructure sectors. The company also produces galvanized steel poles, high-mast structures, and lattice towers for the power transmission and distribution industry. Its production facilities are located in Jeddah, Dammam, and Yanbu.
