Alleima is testing AI and machine vision technology to improve quality control of long tubes at its Sandviken production facility in Sweden.
Developed in collaboration with Prevas, the system captures images of the tube surface as each tube rotates and moves through the production line. Up to 1,000 images per tube can be analyzed in real time by an AI network trained to identify specific surface defects.
The pilot project is being tested under actual production conditions and is intended to support operators by identifying areas requiring closer inspection, potentially making quality control more consistent and efficient.
The project also demonstrates the potential to combine AI, machine vision and industrial automation with production-process knowledge to automate inspection tasks that have traditionally required manual visual examination.
