AQS to supply billets to Al Solb under new strategic partnership

Algerian state-owned steelmaker Al Solb (formerly Sider El Hadjar), a subsidiary of the National Steel Holding Company (SNS), has entered into a partnership agreement with Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS) to enhance domestic steel production capabilities.

Under the agreement, AQS will supply semi-finished steel (billets) to Al Solb, which will then process the material into finished steel products. Al Solb described the collaboration as a strategic move that will deepen ties between the two companies, support the national economy, and add value across the industrial and commercial sectors.

According to Al Solb’s website, the company has an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of rebar, 600,000 tons of flat products, and 30,000 tons of seamless tubes.

Founded in 2013, AQS is a joint venture between Qatar Steel International (49pct) and Algerian partners (51pct). It operates a 2.5 mln tons per year Midrex DRI plant, two electric arc furnace (EAF) melt shops with a combined capacity of 2.2 mln tons, and three rolling mills capable of producing up to 2 mln tons of rebar and wire rod annually.
