ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products has collaborated with Polyvision to develop 5-foot-wide cold rolled enamel steel coils, expanding the range of specialty steel products for architectural, infrastructure and industrial applications.
The new product is manufactured at ArcelorMittal’s Ghent plant in Belgium using its DC01EK-PLUS-SOFT grade, a cold rolled steel specifically designed for vitreous porcelain enamelling. The wider coils enable the production of larger-format enamelled steel panels for whiteboards, facades, partitions, signage and other architectural applications.
Polyvision has invested in a new production line at its Okmulgee facility in the United States to enamel the wider coils. The company said the line can process coils weighing up to 5 tons, each containing approximately 1.5 km of 0.35 mm thick steel. The enamel coating is applied through a continuous furnace operating at around 800 Celsius, producing a durable ceramic-coated surface.
Polyvision said the wider format removes previous size limitations and opens new applications for its CeramicSteel products beyond traditional whiteboards. The company produces enamelled steel products at facilities in Belgium and the United States and supplies customers in more than 60 countries.
According to ArcelorMittal, the development required close technical cooperation between the two companies and is expected to support growing demand for large-format panels in education, public infrastructure and commercial buildings.
