ArcelorMittal and Spanish energy company Moeve have launched Green Molecules to Green Steel (G2G), a joint platform aimed at developing technologies to accelerate the transition to low-emission steel and industrial decarbonization.
The platform, owned equally by the two companies, will fund and develop industrial demonstrators that can later be scaled at their production facilities. Asturias’ innovation agency Sekuens will also participate through existing and future innovation-support programmes.
G2G will focus on green molecules including biomethane, biogas, renewable hydrogen and its derivatives, as well as second-generation biofuels and technologies such as advanced catalysts, CO2 capture, biotechnology and artificial intelligence for new materials.
The initiative will bring together the companies’ innovation centres and create an open ecosystem involving startups, universities and technology centres, with a focus on developing and scaling industrial technologies.
ArcelorMittal and Moeve said the collaboration aims to support industrial competitiveness while accelerating decarbonization and energy-transition projects in Europe.
