ArcelorMittal to invest in energy efficiency upgrades at Krakow plant

ArcelorMittal is launching a new investment program at its Krakow operations, covering the construction of a boiler room, a waste heat recovery system, and a new electricity substation. The projects are aimed at cutting natural gas consumption and reducing CO2 emissions by around 115,000 tons per year, the company said.

The investment supports the current configuration of ArcelorMittal Poland’s Krakow site, which now operates a hot rolling mill and a cold rolling complex with galvanizing and coating lines. Key elements include a new boiler room with two gas-fired boilers to supply heat and steam, and a waste heat recovery unit that will reuse heat from the hot rolling mill’s intermediate furnace cooling system, replacing energy currently lost. A new 6 kV electricity substation will also be built to ensure stable power distribution for existing and new installations.

Once completed, the project is expected to reduce natural gas consumption by more than 2,000 TJ per year. Total investment exceeds USD 55 mln, with commissioning planned before the end of 2027.
