Ashry Steel plans to build country’s first high-speed train wheel factory

Ashry Steel Group plans to establish Egypt’s first factory for manufacturing high-speed train wheels in Sadat City, aligning with the government’s push to localize heavy industries and cut imports, local media reported.

The project, to be developed in partnership with the Ministry of Transport and the Egyptian National Railways Authority, supports Egypt’s growing investments in high-speed rail and public transit infrastructure.

As part of this initiative, Ashry is developing a 165,000-square-meter industrial complex in Sadat City, which will include hot rolling, cold rolling, galvanizing, and color coating lines.

Additionally, the group plans to invest over USD 685 mln in a seamless stainless steel pipe plant with an initial annual capacity of 250,000 tons, expected to be operational within two years. Founded in 1983, Ashry Steel is a leading Egyptian steelmaker with an annual capacity of 2 mln tons, producing rebar, merchant bars, and ERW welded tubes, along with operating a steel service center for flat products.
