Baosteel commissions new SBQ rolling line at Shanghai plant

Baoshan Iron & Steel (Baosteel) has successfully rolled the first bar at its new KOCKS RSB 370++/4 Reducing & Sizing Block, marking the commissioning of a new special bar quality (SBQ) rolling mill at its greenfield facility. The project represents the third KOCKS RSB installation jointly commissioned by Baosteel and the German technology supplier.

The new rolling mill, with an annual production capacity of 620,000 tons, was built as part of Baosteel’s relocation of its Shanghai production facilities and replaces an existing KOCKS sizing block commissioned in 2003.

The 3-roll RSB 370++/4 serves as the finishing block following a 20-stand H/V rolling mill and is designed to produce straight bars in diameters ranging from 20 mm to 100 mm, delivering high dimensional accuracy for special bar quality steel products.

The rolling line is equipped with advanced automation, including remote-controlled stand and guide adjustments, as well as BAMICON Octopus roll shop software to optimize setup and production planning.

Baosteel said the first bar was rolled within the specified dimensional tolerances, providing a solid foundation for production ramp-up. The company will now focus on stabilizing operations and completing on-site training to maximize mill performance and product quality.
