Turkey imported 1.6 mln tons of billets in the first five months of 2025, marking a YoY increase of nearly 36pct, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
Malaysia was the top supplier during this period, exporting approximately 515,200 tons to Turkey. Russia ranked second with 317,200 tons, followed by China with around 193,300 tons.
In May alone, billet imports surged to roughly 478,000 tons, up 208pct compared to May 2024 and 78pct higher than the previous month.
