Turkey’s billet imports increased sharply in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
The country imported around 1.27 mln tons of billet during the January-March period, rising by 55pct YoY.
Russia remained the largest billet supplier to Turkey during the period, exporting around 388,000 tons, followed by China with 251,500 tons, the UAE with 114,900 tons, and Malaysia with 106,200 tons.
In March alone, Turkey’s billet imports totaled around 548,600 tons, up sharply from 195,400 tons recorded in the same month last year and increasing by around 28pct compared with February.
