Blastr Green Steel has partnered with Lhoist, a global leader in lime, dolime, and mineral solutions, to supply low-carbon lime and dolime for Blastr’s future steel plant in Inkoo, Finland. This collaboration aims to create a scalable decarbonized value chain for producing ultra-low CO2 steel in Europe.
The partnership focuses on supplying Lhoist’s LEVEL|GREEN low-carbon lime and dolime, potentially reducing the Inkoo plant’s Scope 3 emissions by up to 50 kg CO2 per ton of steel. This aligns with Blastr’s sustainability targets as it plans to produce 2.5 mln tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually.
Lime and dolime are critical raw materials in steel production, and the agreement will assess their supply to Blastr. The partnership includes technical support for integrating these materials into the steel production process. Additionally, Lhoist will evaluate an investment project for a terminal to handle the product supply and assist Blastr with its permitting process. The partners aim to finalize a supply agreement, pending Blastr’s final investment decision for the steel plant.
