The Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport, and the Environment (ELY Center) has issued its reasoned conclusion on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for Blastr’s low-emission steel plant. This marks a key milestone toward the final investment decision.
With the EIA phase complete, the project now moves to the permitting stage, providing a strong foundation for environmental approvals and supporting Inkoo’s zoning plans. The EIA process evaluates significant environmental impacts and identifies ways to mitigate them.
Blastr’s planned steel mill in Inkoo aims to cut carbon dioxide emissions by replacing coal with clean hydrogen and using raw materials produced with renewable energy, aligning with global climate goals. The project is also expected to boost the regional economy, create jobs, and attract investments to Inkoo and Western Uusimaa.
Blastr aims to decarbonize steel production by leveraging Nordic resources and circular economy principles to produce 2.5 mln tons of ultra-low CO2 steel annually. Blastr Green Steel is part of Vanir Green Industries.
