Borusan Pipe expands U.S. operations with major investment in Florida plant

Borusan Pipe’s U.S. subsidiary, Borusan Berg Pipe, has launched a major expansion project at its plant in Panama City, Florida, aimed at significantly boosting its production capacity and product range to meet growing demand in the energy sector.

As part of the project, German machinery manufacturer Grabener Maschinentechnik GmbH & Co. KG has been appointed to supply and install advanced pipe-forming equipment. The work will be carried out by its U.S. subsidiary, Graebener Inc., and includes the delivery of a pre-bending press, bending press, tack welding machine, and associated roller tables and a cross transfer system.

With this upgrade, the Florida facility will be able to produce longitudinally welded pipes ranging from 16 to 60 inches in diameter and up to 2.27 inches in wall thickness, with lengths of up to 12.8 meters. These pipes will be used in the oil, gas, and renewable energy sectors.

The expansion is part of a USD 68 mln investment, and the new equipment is expected to become operational by 2027.

Borusan Berg Pipe currently operates two U.S. facilities. Its Panama City plant has an annual production capacity of 330,000 tons of longitudinal welded pipes, while its Mobile, Alabama facility produces 220,000 tons of spiral welded pipes annually.

Founded in 1958, Borusan Pipe is one of Turkey’s leading steel pipe manufacturers. Its domestic mills have a combined annual capacity of 750,000 tons for longitudinal welded pipes and 300,000 tons for spiral welded pipes. In Europe, its Vobarno plant in Italy specializes in cold-drawn special pipes with a capacity of 29,000 tons per year.
